re:new - The Charity shop was opened today at 10am by our very own Doreen Lewis. Doreen has had a desire since she was a young girl to go to the nations, but it wasn't until she reached her 70's that she was able to fulfil it. It was then that she made her first visit to Uganda, a trip that she has made many times since. She has spent years raising funds for overseas projects and, more recently, a childrens home in Kampala which officially opened in 2007. So it seemed fitting that she should be given the honour of opening the shop for us.Pop in this week and see the brand new shop for yourself and browse a range of good quality second hand items, donated by the big hearted people of City Temple. We have received a large amount of items already but we still need more. So if you have toys that you're kids lost interest in on Boxing Day, crockery that is just gathering dust or clothes that don't fit you thanks to this year's successful Lent or New Years resolutions, please get in touch.
We also need women's, men's and children's clothing, toys, games, household items, bedding, books, jewellery, DVDs and CDs (but not videos or cassette tapes) and gifts.
Last week's Sunday offerings raised over £1,600 towards the set up costs of the shop. Thanks to everyone who gave. You can still donate to the shop (pick up a donation envelope in our Sunday service) or you can give some of your time as a volunteer to collect or sort donations, assist in the shop, operate the till, iron and steam the clothes, sell on e-bay, help with the accounts and store items away from the shop premises. Whether you can help daily or just once or twice, all help is appreciated.
