On Thursday 9th September 2010, City Temple Cardiff became a Foodbank distribution centre. This means that people who can't even afford food will be able to pick up food from City Temple. Food is donated by generous members of the local community, including many members of our congregation.
The Cardiff Foodbank was officially launched on 29th April 2009 as a part of the Trussell Trust, and is part of the National Foodbank Network. It's a project to help and support those in financial hardship and who are facing the reality of being unable to feed themselves or their families. Nationwide there has been a 71% increase in demand and last year the Network fed 24,000 men, women and children in the UK!
A Christian Initiative enabling the whole community to fight hidden hunger in Cardiff, where upwards of 50,000 are deemed 'deprived' and in some areas 78.5% of children live in benefit reliant families.(Wales Index of Multiple Deprivation 2005)
Please continue to pray for the team that administer the centre and for many opportunities to show the love of God to those who collect their food.
