The issue of debt is one of the major challenges affecting us today. Debt and financial worries account for more and more stress, marriage pressure and family breakdown. Money pressures are often carried in secret and those struggling with debt can all too easily feel isolated, anxious and fearful. What's more, in our society money issues have a pattern of creeping up on us. Yet for those in debt there is real help available.
Christians Against Poverty (CAP) is a national debt counselling charity with a network of 112 centres in local churches all over the UK. CAP offers hope and a solution to people in debt through a unique service which also seeks to introduce people who don't know Christ to His life changing message and power.
Founded by John Kirkby in 1996 with a £10 donation to help people in his local community who were trapped in debt, CAP is now a leading national charity and has won The Times newspapers award for the past two years as the best company to work for in Britain.
In order to help the vast majority of people who may not be in huge debt but want to better manage their finances. CAP has developed the CAP Money course. The course aims to help people gain control and then keep control of their finances. It is comprehensive but very simple and has proven highly effective wherever it has been offered.
As a church we are looking to find many very practical ways to help people with real life issues. So are running the CAP Money course at the City Temple on Wednesday nights throughout January (which starts on Jan 13th). It takes place over 3 weeks and combines great teaching on a large screen DVD with practical sessions to help you get on top of your own finances. CAP Money is open to anyone who wants to get better control of their finances but for this first course, numbers will be limited.
