We are often asked about the name "The City Temple". In what is now a multi-cultural city the title sometimes causes some confusion and occasionally some humorous moments. The name was chosen when the church was founded in the 1930s to reflect a burden and concern for the city of Cardiff. It was to be a place of worship (hence "Temple") which was open to and concerned with the people of this city. It was never intended to be a local neighbourhood church, but one with a goal to reach the whole city for Christ.
Now City Temple is a vibrant church with people from all over the world. Just as the landscape of Cardiff has changed over the years so the City Temple has also changed to become a picture of the diversity and dynamics of the city it seeks to reach and serve.
We believe that church is God's idea - He wants His people to grow strong exciting churches which are dull of life and energy. So we are committed to becoming a place where people can encounter the life changing power of God - a place of vibrant worship, relevant and inspiring teaching and authentic community.
In this atmosphere we believe we can become people who not only experience personal spiritual growth but who can impact the lives of others in their communities, in the city and even in other nations.
One church leader said "the local church is the hope of the world." At City Temple we take that seriously and want to mobilise hundreds of people to be part of God's plan to bring Hope and Life and transformation to our city.
